OUR SEALS TOUR
Join us in comfort and style onboard Kittiwake as we head WEST towards Bull point where the Bristol Channel meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Passing the historic Tunnels Beaches, now a breathtaking wedding venue complete with Victorian tidal pool we cruise along the coast of rugged outcrops, passing White Pebble, Hazel Bushes, and Freshwater bays to the charming hamlet of Lee Bay.
From here the short hop to Bull Point where we pass the lighthouse originally built in 1879 but replaced in the 1970's following a cliff fall. We then round the corner into stunning Rockham Bay in the hope we will see some of the Atlantic Grey Seals that live there.
Before heading back we travel a little further on towards Morte Point to get a glimpse of the expanse of Woolacombe Bay, with Baggy Point to the west, and on a clear day, Hartland in the far distance.
Lots to see and if we’re lucky a few seals to boot!
Atlantic Grey Seals
Atlantic grey seals, known for their distinctive spotted coats and large size, are among the most fascinating marine mammals found along the coasts of North Devon & Lundy Island. Typically weighing between 200 to 300 kilograms, these seals are easily recognisable by their long, streamlined bodies and prominent snouts. They are excellent divers, capable of plunging to depths of over 200 meters in search of fish, squid, and crustaceans, which make up their diet.
Grey seals are social creatures, often seen basking on rocks or beaches in large groups, particularly during the breeding season. Their playful nature and inquisitive behaviour make them a favourite among wildlife enthusiasts and marine biologists alike. Furthermore, conservation efforts have helped their populations recover in recent years, allowing more people to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitats.
