A new relationship has been formed!

We are thrilled to announce a new collaboration between Kittiwake Charters and Ecotribo!

On Wednesday, we welcomed Tyrone and Carrie from @ecotribolife onboard Kittiwake to share ideas with the primary objective of cleaning our seas.

Since launching Kittiwake Charters in 2023, our dream has been to create a business that celebrates our local area while actively working to protect and clean our waters — both above and below the surface. We’re committed to clearing plastic from the sea wherever we can. Along the way, we strive to educate our community about the importance of clean seas and the impact of plastic pollution.

When we learned that Ecotribo had moved to the area, we were eager to take them out on the water to identify where much of the plastic ends up.

We also highlighted the picturesque secluded bays where ghost nets can wash ashore.

Ecotribo specialises in clearing plastic and transforming it into meaningful, purchasable items. In the coming months, we look forward to sharing ideas on how to more effectively clean our local waters.

This is what Ecotribo had to say:

"We’ve been scouting remote coves along the coast - the kind that often collect ghost nets after storms roll through. These areas are hard to access, which means debris can go unnoticed and cause serious harm to wildlife.

To stay ahead, we’re teaming up with local legends like Captain David and his son Jenson on the @kittiwakecharters . Together, we’re mapping trouble spots, setting up digital systems and prepping gear so we’re ready to respond fast when storms hit.

We have also set up a local North Devon WhatsApp group for spotters so we can collaborate and coordinate so reach out if you want to get involved and we can share more details to the group.

Quick recovery means less risk to marine life and less plastic breaking down into microplastics.

:::

Every net and rope we remove is a step toward a healthier ocean. We will be recycling the waste into positive action with full transparency from beach to bench and pot. This is what we mean when we say products with purpose."

We are incredibly excited to embark on this journey with like-minded individuals!
