It's mid August and a storm is brewing. We have put Kitti safely on her mooring for a few days which is giving us time to get hair cut and catch up on the dull task of admin.
Jenson the cabin boy has been pestering me to write a captains log for the website so here it is in my own words and my own thoughts.
I can’t believe the number of kind reviews we have been receiving this season. Thank you
The whole team at Kittiwake work so hard to ensure our passengers have a good time. We love meeting passengers and finding out about them. So many of you are from the other side of Barnstaple! Who knew there was such a big world out there.
The diversity of people intrigues me most. Where you come from and what you do for a living. We have had phycologists from Poland, a lion keeper, lots of people that work in IT (don’t blame them for trying to get outside for a bit) a few swimming instructors ( hope you are not putting the swimming seals trips through the books) we have also had those influencer people along with so many talented photographers for which we thank you for sharing your photos with us.
I know that and every person I meet enriches my life and I hope a trip aboard Kitti does the same for you.
As the tides come and go, we learn more about where the business is heading. We know that people just want to get on the water and see the wildlife and our beautiful coastline, but more importantly, we know people enjoy the customer service we offer and learning about our lives in North Devon. Passengers ask about what we do in the winter months and what’s the roughest seas you have ever been in. Sometimes I feel i could tell you anything and you would believe it, but although some stories may be dramatised a little, they are generally from the heart.
Living in a small coastal town has its challenges, but I think over all it's pretty good. Ilfracombe has a great community and this is more so around the harbour.
Working in my office has its ups and downs (every pun intended) but at the end of the boating season, there is a genuine sadness that another season has come to an end. That said, we still have about another 4 weeks left of the season before things start to get quieter so wonder who will meet next
The weather man is saying better weather is on the horizon with fair winds predicted. Lets hope so.
Farewell for now!
Skipper Dave
